This past year at NIU most of my projects have been related more to assisting executive administration at NIU with streamlining operations and designing effective decision support tools such as an Access database to monitor student interaction and activity under the Associate Provost's supervision. Some of these projects include:
Redesigned activity report database system for the Advising information and Referrals office. Compiled mailing list system for the Peer Mentoring Program, compile database report from student evaluation of the Majors Day event
In the last five years, I have worked in the area of operations with
the Ford Motor Company (U.K.) as a production staff assistant (full time)
and at NIU's Student Housing and Dining Services, as a Graduate Residence
Hall Advisor. This required me to work both on individual and team
projects, which no doubt enabled me develop key communication and organizational
skills.
As a Residence Hall Advisor, I set up and was responsible for maintaining
a judicial database that enabled easier periodic activity reports and query
searches to be conducted in a timely fashion. I also set up a homepage to serve
as a suitable alternative to public announcements in our mostly quiet lifestyle
floor facility, where our residents would not only access useful information
but learn about upcoming events and activities in the residence halls
of interest to them.
In the 1997/98 academic year, I worked with a number of students in
organizing multicultural, social and educational programs through a student
group on campus, the
African Students Association (ASA), which I was privileged
to serve, as President in the 1997/98 year. During my tenure, the executive
team of the ASA implemented programs such as 'bridging the gap,' Afro rhythms,
Field Museum exhibition, African Studies Conference and co-sponsored events
such as the multicultural carnival, the reggae explosion with other groups
